Introduction to Semi-permanent Cosmetics

Semi-permanent Make-up, Cosmetic Tattooing or technically know as Micropigmentation, is a process whereby minute particles of inert (remain stagnant) iron oxide colour pigments in a carrier solution are implanted into the dermal layers of the skin. This is achieved by using a specially designed hand–piece which utilises a single-use only, disposable needle cartridge. Depending on which features of the face are to be enhanced, the implantation depth will vary approximately between 1mm and 2 mm. The procedure is very safe and medically approved and is fast becoming one of the most requested treatments in the beauty industry. The pigments used at Smudge-Free have been in use for over 25 years and to date there have been no recorded cases of allergic reactions. The procedure takes about an hour and is made comfortable with the use of a topical anaesthetic cream. The effects of Semi-permanent Make-up can remain in the skin between one and three years and sometimes longer. The result achieved is stunning, Smudge-Free make-up that looks great, all day – every day!

Semi-permanent Make-up which has been carefully applied can give the impression of rejuvenation and even as far to say as a mini face lift. Always have these procedures carried out by a reputable technician and remember, the treatment is long-lasting so should be regarded as permanent.

Semi-permanent Cosmetics procedures are no longer a secret for the rich and famous. Thanks to reality programmes such as T.V. hit series’ ‘10 Years Younger’, which is presented by style guru Nicky Hambleton-Jones, Channel 4’s ‘Make Me Perfect’ and Harley Street, Semi-permanent Cosmetics are becoming bigger than ever. Consumers are realising the true benefits these treatments have to offer and are no longer fearful of the once portrayed ‘Barbie Doll’ image. New technology, advanced techniques and pharmaceutical grade pigments have made it possible to produce the most natural looking results to merely enhance and bring out the best in everyone!

Career women and men, athletes, people with busy and hectic lifestyles that don’t have the time to apply their make-up in the morning, let alone freshen-up a few times throughout the day will benefit from having their features enhanced with Semi-permanent Cosmetics. Not forgetting people with unsteady hands or with poor eyesight and even the less fortunate ones who suffer with allergies when using conventional make-up.

These are all prime candidates who will appreciate and benefit from the convenience that these procedures have to offer. In fact, they’re for everyone who wishes to look his or her best. And the most satisfying thing of all is they are safe in the knowledge that their enhancements or corrections have been expertly applied and will always remain ‘Smudge-Free’ - come rain or shine!

Men are opting for it too!

If you thought looking good was just for women, think again!

Men are also realising the true benefits that Semi-permanent Cosmetics have to offer and so the arena for these treatments is getting even bigger. The techniques used on male enhancements to the face are handled with a much softer approach and we would never do a solid line in the Eye-lash area. The process is built up entirely of tiny dots and when healed will give the impression of fuller lashes. Sparse or uneven eyebrows can also benefit from Micropigmentation in single hair-stoke techniques. The eyebrows can be intensified by filling the gaps using the ‘hair-stroke simulation’ technique. View our gallery to see just how Semi-permanent Cosmetics have been used in the male lash-line to create an illusion of fuller lashes. Note how the appearance still remains completely masculine.

Micropigmentation is definitely here to stay and it can only get better with technology and products advancing so rapidly. Semi-permanent Cosmetics procedures are both safe and medically approved when carried out by competent technicians and what our industry requires are competent and skilled technicians to supply the service that the public so demands. All these techniques can be mastered during the Smudge-Free training courses.

Image The Basic Course - Eyes, Lips and Eyebrows

Our foundation course in Semi-permanent Cosmetics will teach you how to create truly stunning procedures with ease and the minimal of discomfort to your clients. Smudge-Free have developed techniques which are now used by many in the industry. Especially those who have come to our refresher courses to up-date their equipment and skills have really noticed the difference in our training. A technician who masters this art can produce the most wonderful results that can truly enhance the features that nature has provided. Lips can be balanced and adjusted to create volume and finally finished with a soft contoured edge, perhaps with a hint of blush.

Eyebrows that have developed a tired look over the years can be recreated and reshaped to give a more youthful appearance. On the other hand, Eyebrows that are almost non-existent through years of tweezing or that have simply reduced over time can now be put back into place to give the face its long-lost expression and frame by using our single hair-stroke simulation techniques. This truly is a break-through in Semi-permanent Make-up techniques yet so few can actually do it properly, let alone teach it. The eyes are often referred to as ‘the windows of the soul' and can be given a lively and vibrant look by defining the lash-line, either with a series of tiny dots that simulate hundreds of lashes or can be given a wide open appearance with full Eyelash enhancement.

Image Advanced Semi-permanent Cosmetics Courses

In our advanced Semi-permanent Cosmetics courses we will teach you more intricate procedures and how to create the ‘wow’ factor.

Create the most beautiful Double Eyeliners using two colours, one to intensify the lash-line and another to bring out the colour of your client’s eyes. The results of this procedure are truly striking. Create shaped Eyeliners with a flick to open and lift the eyes or create thick, Smoky Eyeliner using large needle groupings for that really sexy look.

Lips that are uneven and have depleted over time can be given a new lease of life by simulating volume and symmetry by softly contouring a new vermillion border then blending colours to compliment the existing lip tissue to create a more youthful appearance. The list is endless once you become an advanced technician with our own especially developed techniques.

Our advance Eyebrow techniques using multi-pigments result in the most lifelike 3 D effect and can be seen in the Eyebrows section under ‘Procedures’. This artistic recreation requires the utmost skill and these techniques can be mastered by you in our advanced Master Classes.

Paramedical Advanced Course

A fully qualified technician who has reached a high level of experience and confidence may then consider a training course in 'Advanced Micropigmentation' or otherwise known as 'Master Class'. This advanced level of training will take the technician to higher steps allowing greater diversity and the possibilities of working with The NHS (National Health Service).

Competent and skilled technicians are very sought after in the paramedical field as well as in the beauty industry. They are especially very much in demand to work with leading plastic surgeons and oncologists to correct scarring after surgery. Women who have endured the long process to recovery after breast augmentation and reconstruction due to breast cancer can be given back their dignity by finishing off their corrective treatment with ‘Areola re-pigmentation’ or ‘Nipple tattooing’. Andrew Stassi has developed his own techniques which look so real, other professionals in the industry claimed they are the best and most convincing they have ever seen. (See Areola restoration under Procedures).

People who have been disfigured or badly scarred, those who were born with cleft-lip, also known as ‘hare-lip’ or any other disfiguration can have the symmetry put back with advanced Micro-pigmentation techniques.

There is nothing more rewarding than to be able to restore someone’s confidence and self esteem after having suffered terrible trauma through either fire, road accident, breast cancer, vitiligo (loss of melanin in the skin) or sudden alopecia, which is a condition that causes partial or even total hair-loss. Being able to offer these advanced procedures is more than just about earning a good living. You can help thousands of people once again enjoy a sense of normality and give them a confidence boost as well as raising their self-esteem.

Removal course

At Smudge Free we use two different types of removal processes for Semi-permanent make-up removal and both are demonstrated during the training course.

These procedures are especially beneficial to those who have received less than satisfactory procedures. We also have a solution which can be used straight after fresh pigment has been implanted incorrectly. This is ideal if a technician has made a minor error during procedure application.

When one is trained correctly how to use these products very effective and promising results can be achieved. Great care and caution must be taken when using removal products as there can be a risk of scarring if the skin is overworked.

During the Smudge-Free Removal course you will learn successful removal/lightening of Semi-permanent make-up pigment. The course price includes instructions and several solutions for removal and neutralising.
